A balanced, nutritious diet is essential for weight loss,
or for maintaining a slender figure. But the bottom line is, if we consume more
calories than we burn, we will gain weight. We need to burn approximately 3500
calories more than what we consume, thus creating a deficit, to lose one pound.
Conversely, if we eat more calories than we need, we will gain approximately one
pound for every 3500 calories too many. But you don't have to go hungry to eat a
low calorie diet. You can work out how many calories you need to maintain your
current body weight by using my formula below. Be aware physical activity burns
additional calories which is not taken to account in any of these calculations.
Exercise will therefore help to speed up weight loss.
Step 1: Find out your body weight in lbs
Step 2: Multiply your body weight by 10 (so if you weigh
150lbs then 150 x 10 = 1500)
Step 3: Add your body weight to the above figure (1500 +
150 = 1650)
And there's your answer in 3 simple steps! In other words,
if you weigh 150lbs, you need approximately 1650 calories per day to maintain
this body weight.
Remember, if you exercise, you'll need more!
